5 Incredible Mompreneur Success Stories That’ll Leave You Speechless! – You may have heard my story of how I turned my family’s traumatic experiences into a national nonprofit to prevent other mothers and daughters from experiencing the generational curse of domestic violence that my family experienced.
Launching Saving Promise (named after my granddaughter) not only allows me to do the purposeful work that I so enjoy doing, but ultimately led me to also use my story to inspire other women to become entrepreneurs.
That’s why I LOVE hearing stories about other moms who used their personal experiences to build empires. Stories like Allie Casazza, a mom of four, who figured out a way to turn her hot mess (endless stuff, excess clutter, ridiculous schedules, whining babies, dirty diapers, you name it…) into a viral empire. Simply, she helps moms unclutter their lives. Check out Allie Casazza’s brand and anthem book: Declutter Like a Mother.
And how about Elle Rowley who built a global brand out of creating versatile baby-wearing wraps born out of her own frustration with the lack of safe and stylish baby wraps? Solly Baby has not only become a recognizable brand for baby wraps but has expanded into other baby essentials and gifts.
What about Michele Welsh who feeling overwhelmed at crowded amusement parks decided to write her cell phone number on her kid’s arms? An idea that grew into the innovative and inspiring brand SafetyTats. When you add safety to any brand concerning kids, it’s a sure-shot winner!
And you can’t help but be inspired by Vanessa Quigley’s story, a mom of seven who created a way to turn those endless images of her kids into tangible photos. Check out Chatbooks, a website, and app that turns your social media images into printed photo albums.
Least of all, it’s women like Allison Robinson, mom of three, who challenged the status quo and reimagined a future where women would not have to choose between motherhood and their careers. Inspired by her own story, she founded The Mom Project, a company and movement to encourage employers to hire moms.
That’s just a few good mamas that are shaking shit up! If these moms can do it so can you! Here are five quick strategies to help you get started.
- Use Your Story and Experiences. Your personal story is the foundation of who you are. It’s the most powerful tool you have for creating and marketing a brand that will resonate with your audience. Think about those pet peeves that make you want to yank somebody. Then figure out a way to solve that problem. More than likely there are countless moms struggling with the same issue.
- Set a Goal. The first step to becoming a successful mompreneur is to set a goal. You need to know what you’re aiming for and why. If you don’t have a goal, it’s hard to know where you’re going. And if you don’t know where you’re going, how are you supposed to get there? Setting goals is the first step toward becoming a successful mompreneur. Whatever it is, make sure it’s clear, specific, and achievable—and then get started!
- Be a Mompreneur, Not Just a Mom. Being a mompreneur means you’re not just running your business—you’re also raising your kids. That’s why it’s so important to make sure that you’re putting the same amount of energy into both. If you want to be an effective mom and an effective entrepreneur, then you have to make time for both. Set aside time each day for both activities and don’t feel guilty about it!
- Give Yourself Permission to Make Mistakes. It’s easy to get caught up in perfectionism as a mompreneur—you want everything to be perfect, but that’s not realistic! Give yourself permission to make mistakes and learn from them because that’s how we grow. If anything goes wrong, just find new ways to try again and keep moving forward until something clicks (and then maybe celebrate with some ice cream).
- Make Time for Yourself and Your Business. Whether it’s taking a walk around the block or going to the gym after your kids go to bed, find some time every day when you can be alone with yourself so that you can focus on what matters most. If possible, try to block off one full day per week for yourself—and don’t forget the power of sleep! It’s so important to get enough rest if you want to be able to stay focused on whatever goals you want to achieve.
Final Words of Wisdom Be a leader, not a follower. Have a clear vision of what you want to achieve and how you’ll get there. Get the right team on your side. Remember that it’s okay to ask for help! Take care of the whole you. And most of all, stay true to yourself and your values throughout the journey.
