How Powerful Are Your Inner Conversations? – The most important conversations you’ll ever have will be with the voice in your head. What you say on the inside has a profound impact on what you believe you’re capable of and what life brings to you.
Your subconscious is observing all your thoughts and feelings. It is filtering for experiences within the range that you’ve determined as acceptable. In The Biology of Belief, Bruce H. Lipton, Ph.D., writes: Our cells are eavesdropping on our thoughts. The subconscious part of your brain wants to ensure that your thinking aligns with what you already believe so that it can set your thermostat of life to just the right emotional temperature. You will experience what you believe.
If being hard on yourself was going to work, it would have worked by now.
~ Mel Robbins
Each of us can do a better job of curating our internal playlist. One way to do this is by consistently inserting a desired message to counteract thoughts that arise from outdated beliefs. To counteract an unhelpful thought, I will actually say, “I used to believe that and what’s really true about me is (empowering and true statement)“.
Persist in the practice of focusing on your deepest, most relevant value and your default thoughts will be more aligned with who you really are. You don’t need to fight old thought patterns, just replace them with thoughts that are more optimistic and loving.
Love yourself and you will be invincible.
-Jenn Sincero
The young sage, Freedom Franklin, says, “Break up with each unhelpful story like it is a bad relationship that no longer serves you.” You might need to remind your Inner Judge that, “Court is not in session“. Treat feelings as signals, not enemies.
The better my story gets, the better my life gets.
Personal Journaling Exercise (repeat as needed)
- Does the story I’m running lead me higher or lower?
- I’m story-telling right now. What’s really true is…
Time spent meditating and cultivating one’s spirit is never lost. Consider spending time in contact with your center as a form of self-respect and as necessary to your well-being. Just as the tallest buildings have the deepest foundations, moments spent in stillness and quiet are part of strengthening a personal foundation. When you let your mind rest in a resourced state it’s natural to feel powerful, connected and less concerned with income or outcome. This state has an emanating and attracting vibration.
You may also find it useful to sit and contemplate the following:
My inner stillness is available. My inner stillness is my support. Stillness holds answers.
Have your meditation modality be one that you respond to readily and joyfully. This way you will make time for it. The following meditation is one that I enjoy.
Inner Glow Meditation
- Sit comfortably and breathe in an easy, natural rhythm. Roll your shoulders, stretch, breath, sigh or yawn as needed to create more ease. You may turn on pleasing music if there are other sounds nearby.
- Close your eyes and visualize your breath as light enters your lungs. With each inhalation, imagine light expanding out from your chest and filling your body. Notice how every one of your cells are turning on, like little lamps. Feel the newly lit-up cells vibrate with happiness. Allow this light to infuse each organ of your body.
- Feel your inner glow as ultimately attractive. You may even visualize your desires in the form of imaginary moths that are drawn to your happily glowing self.
Inner dialog can be your worst enemy and lead you over the cliff of despair. Inner dialog can also be your ally and a lifeline to a better life. There is the truth of who you are and the rest is just a story. Why not act as your own best friend by offering self-compassion and inner patience?
Pause to remember that you are capable, brave, resourced and resourceful, smart, empowered, intuitive, perceptive, caring… Persist in the practice of focusing on your deepest, most relevant values. Remember, it’s the feeling that your thoughts generate that is more important than the thought itself. Emotion is what will translate your bones and nervous system into an invisible escrow account of attraction. You may find it helpful to sometimes silently declare (and feel): The Real Me is enough.
Why not make your brain an ally in the effort to claim your power? What might happen if you increase compassion in your self-talk? How might your self-image improve if you add an extra dose of resourcefulness to what you already tell your brain? Deep sureness is more powerful than surface thoughts.
Sustain intimacy with yourself. Silence can be a sanctuary from story and worry. What you tell yourself on the inside matters. Your deep knowing is always available, but you have to intentionally tap into it. You can call up the best part of you in a moment.
