Caramel Apple Macchiato – Gluten-Free, Vegan, Serves 2
For the caramel sauce:
- 1/4 cup coconut cream
- 2 tablespoons coconut sugar
- Pinch of sea salt
For the macchiato:
- 1 cup strong brewed coffee or espresso
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon apple pie spice
- Dairy-free whipped cream
Directions:
Start by making the caramel sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the coconut cream and coconut sugar. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture starts to bubble and thicken. Once the caramel sauce has thickened slightly (about 3-4 minutes), remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in a pinch of sea salt. Set aside to cool. In a small saucepan, heat the unsweetened almond milk over low heat until warm but not boiling. Stir in the vanilla extract and apple pie spice, creating a spiced milk mixture.
Divide the spiced milk mixture evenly between two serving glasses. Brew strong coffee or espresso and pour it over the spiced milk in each glass. This will create the layered effect of the macchiato. Gently drizzle a spoonful of the cooled caramel sauce over the top of each macchiato. Optionally, top each macchiato with a dollop of dairy-free whipped cream and an extra sprinkle of apple pie spice or cinnamon. Serve the Caramel Apple Macchiato immediately and enjoy this warm and comforting drink or delight in this drink over ice and keep the comfort coming!
