Smoothies are a delicious and fun way to get your daily serving of fruits and vegetables. This smoothie is pack with antioxidant-rich berries, as well as grapefruit essential oil, which is often used as an internal cleanser.
My grandchildren love coming to visit, and every morning they beg me to make them a smoothie or a smoothie bowl. They think they are getting ice cream for breakfast! When in fact it is a breakfast jam-packed and enriched nutrients they need to start their day. Adding different types of essential oils to your smoothie’s or smoothie bowls is a delicious and natural way to add flavor to your food.
Grapefruit has been referred to as the “forbidden fruit” and one of the “Seven Wonders of Barbados.” It’s also known for its energizing and invigorating aroma. I am drenching myself with Grapefruit throughout the spring and summer months, keeping me energized, motivated, and ready to attack my busy calendar. Grapefruit is also renowned for its cleansing and purifying properties and is frequently used in skin care for its ability to promote the appearance of healthy-looking skin. Most importantly for your little ones, grapefruit can also support a healthy metabolism. Other essential oils that would work well in this recipe are Wild Orange, Lemon, Lime, Slim & Sassy. I even have one girl who loves adding On Guard to her smoothie bowls.
The critical thing to remember when using essential oils is, dōTERRA’s essential oils are very potent and 1 to 2 drops is more than enough. When using the citrus oils you can splurge a little, this particular recipe calls for 2 to 3 drops and it isn’t overwhelming at all, but if you used 2 to 3 drops of cinnamon or oregano for something it most likely wouldn’t even be edible.
Here are my top 5 favorite ways to use grapefruit essential oil:
- 1 to 2 drops in my water to help support a healthy immune system.
- Diffuse while dieting or trying to lose weight to increase motivation
- Cooking, in salad dressings or on fish.
- Add to your teenager’s facial routine to improve the appearance of blemishes
- Add 2 to 3 drops to your lotion, and it makes a great Spring or Summer perfume
When making this smoothie bowl I often add a cup of spinach or kale to the smoothies or even avocado, it adds a creamy texture, and it tastes incredible. With this particular recipe it”s really easy to add things that you want to incorporate into your diet and not overly change the taste.
