Beyond Limits: The Transformative Force of Unwavering Belief – I’ve been asked many times how I have been able to successfully accomplish the extremely challenging feats in my life, so I thought I’d write this article, “Beyond Limits: The Transformative Force of Unwavering Belief.”
There are many internal tools I “harnessed” to successfully achieve them all. But When I think about all I have been able to accomplish despite incredibly difficult and overwhelming obstacles, I have to say that the number one core of it all is that I had a strong belief inside me that I was going to make it happen. Some of that came from my desperate desire to stay alive. (Please refer to my story From Ashes to Flight on my website virginiaoman.com if you’re not familiar with my near death journey.) And I knew the only way I wanted to continue my life is if I could fully participate in it and have my body back.
There are hundreds of strong references to the power of belief starting way back in the Hindu faith and no doubt before that time. Later on in the world timeline, it is written in biblical scripture (Mathew) (I’m paraphrasing) the concept “it is done unto you as you believe” which the profit Yeshua supposedly said. Then, continuing right up into current times with the proven results of the “placebo effect”. And, of course, the popular Law of Attraction. What we focus on becomes manifest. This is all the miraculous power of belief.
Belief as My North Star
At every point of my journey of climbing “out of the ashes,”…I always had belief. It was my north star and I followed it. Because of that, I chose to study Ernest Holmes for many years, who wrote extensively about the power of belief. As an example of the power of belief in action, I’ll describe one of the scariest moments in my journey back to health when this concept came front and center, pedal to the metal so to speak. After teaching myself to walk again, I worked tirelessly for 11 months to teach my body to be able to ride a two wheel bike again despite being told it would be impossible by everyone including my friends and my doctor. “Don’t even attempt to do this!” was what was strongly advised. But I felt the calling inside me and followed it.
I even found a very unique medallion I wore around my neck everyday, a bicycle gear with the word BELIEVE etched in the metal. (It is the exact one I’m wearing in the accompanying photo)
It was a long labor of work day after day for all those months, and progress was slow. I couldn’t even lift my legs up to GET ONTO a bike so I had to start with a child’s bike. And even that, I couldnt lift my legs up enough to get my feet up to the pedals. THAT”S where I started.
Worked on it every day following my plan. But finally all steps had been completed and it was now show-time. I remember that day clear as a bell. I straddled my bike at the top of a hill that evened out onto flat pavement. I lifted one leg up on the pedal, getting ready to push off and stay upright. It was paramount to not end up crashing down to asphalt as I was in my late 60s, so falling wasn’t an option due to the serious likelihood and dangers of breaking bones. So there I was, standing at the top, ready to go.
I took 3 deep inhalations and exhalations while reviewing in my head the 6 steps that I had to complete within less than a 2 second interval. Was there fear on all 4 sides of me?….heck yes. But then I heard my spiritual teacher’s voice inside my head saying calmly over and over…. ”you’re already doing it Gin”. “You’re already doing it.” I saw that image of me and then pushed off. My other leg came up perfectly, no wobble in the frame or handlebars, no hesitation, and suddenly there I was, successfully riding a 2 wheel bike again unassisted.
Watch me achieve what I was told was impossible in this short video: Believe in the Ride, Virginia Oman.
Belief. Pure and implemented. Unforgettable results.
Another way to think about “belief” in this context…is passion. 100% passion for whatever it is you are going after. You want to envision it, feel it happening, run the movie in your head of you achieving whatever it is you’re going for.
The wonderful thing about this whole process is that the JOURNEY to get there is as sweet as the final arrival. Afterwards, think back on all you did to step forward, go for it and work continuously to get there, while envisioning and claiming it as already here. You very well may find as I did, that that entire process was more noteworthy than the final prize. After all, you kept showing up. You kept pushing BEYOND any doubts or fears, claiming this victory as yours.
You will have just proven the incredible power of belief. You will have also proved something very significant. You are LIMITLESS!!
