We live our lives in automatic mode: wake up, go to work or school (or get behind our computers to work from home), eat, sleep, and start again. Of course, this is generalized, we can add some social activities, workouts, and/or tv time. The fact is we all live in our comfort zone and we like our routines. For some of us, it is amazing, but most of us start to get burned out from this repetitive life. I have a lot of clients who feel unhappy because they are scared to leave their comfort zone. They don’t know how to get out of this hamster wheel. I tell them to start working on their Yes. Saying yes to new things, adventures, and projects.
It can be as small as a new recipe and as big as a trip to a new career. I know it can sound scary: what if I fail, what if it doesn’t work, what if I don’t like it… These are all valid questions, so we always start small and test the waters. For example, instead of always eating the same thing, you say yes to a new dish at the restaurant. You can hate it, but you can love it as well. If you don’t like the dish, you always have the choice to order something else; but if you hadn’t said yes, you would have never experienced that dish. Maybe for you, it is not a new dish, but a new book, movie genre, or music… Think about it, what do you have to lose? Even if the experience is not good, it would be a good story to laugh about.
